Additional Health Care Coverage – Medical, Dental & Vision?

Question by : Additional Health Care Coverage – Medical, Dental & Vision?
I am a single mother of two young boys (ages 11 and 14). I currently pay for United Health Care coverage through my employer for Medical, Dental and Vision. However the only plan that my employer offers with United Health Care covers only the very basics. Because of this limited coverage, I would really like to purchase “additional” health care coverage from a different insurance provider.

My question(s) to all of you have been listed below;

1. In California, am I allowed to purchase additional health care coverage outside of what I already receive through my employer?

2. If yes, would the additional insurance coverage purchased then be considered a “secondary insurance” to my existing/primary health coverage with United Health Care?

I just want to be sure that its not against the law if I were to purchase additional health care coverage outside of my employer.

In Advance – I would like to “Thank you” for taking the time to read my question and sending me your answer…I truly appreciate your time.

BTW….I welcome any/all health care provider suggestions.

Don’t get extra dental and vision.
It’s just not worth it the extra cost.
A little out of pocket for these services will be more cost effective over the long run.
Just keep a special savings account for these extra charges.

With medical, ask your employer if you can decrease your deductible or get more benefits.
The complaints on “outside” health insurance plans are mind-boggling.
Your best bet is always through your employer.
These outside companies tend to turn you down for covereage and the complaints fill the internet.
Again, you can set up a savings account to meet your deductibles or out of pocket expenses – financially the best thing you can do..
